Each Sunday: Ed Jim Chris Brad

A Month of Sundays just released their latest CD, "Easier Said Than Done," in February 2006, recorded over a span that saw them playing their favored haunts in the Washington, DC, area and a swing down to Texas for the 2005 South By Southwest Music Festival (SXSW).

The band began some time in 2000, getting together on Sundays now and again to write and play a few songs. It started a couple years prior when Ed and Jim met while each doing a stint in the Army (no doubt following in Elvis’ footsteps). Ed told Jim he was a singer, to which Jim replied, “Yeah, sure; everyone’s a singer.” When Jim told Ed that he was a drummer, Ed shot back, “Well, everyone’s a drummer.” After insulting each other a bit more, they became good friends and got together after their Army days to take a shot at writing some songs. Jim showed Ed some songs he’d worked out; Ed presented Jim his ideas. Then they got together with Jim’s brother Chris and hammered out some 4-track demos at Ed’s place. They liked what they were doing but were frustrated only laying tracks, being too undermanned to play songs live. After a succession of trying out guys who knew a chord or two, Jim and Chris suggested giving their old pal Brad a call.

Jim, Chris, and Brad grew up in the same neighborhood and had been playing together off and on in bands for some years. However, Brad hadn’t played much of anything since the early nineties, having fallen into mock contentment with the real world of day jobs and pencil pushing. Ed had some reservations about the guy, because his only meeting with him was when Brad was invited to jam with the band one December. Unfortunately, it was the day after one of his famous Christmas cocktail parties, and he was in pretty sorry shape. While Ed was not impressed with Brad’s display of “ambition” that day, he did like some things he played. Not much happened for a while, but in the spring of 2000, the guys called again and Brad figured he’d found a cool way to kill a few Sunday afternoons.

Soon the band began to get a sound and wondered where it was going. Ed suggested recording a CD in a studio. His good friend Janine Wilson, a wonderful blues vocalist, steered the band to producer Marco Delmar at Recording Arts.

So what began as some guys getting together on Sundays to write and jam for some kicks has evolved into a pretty damn good band and two acclaimed CD releases. So pick up your copies of "Easier Said Than Done" and "Click" from this site.
